i was glancing through the blog directory, and i was reminded of the last scene in pump up the volume (that christian slater movie from the early nineties where he turns his basement bedroom into a pirate radio station). at the end of the film, as he gets carted off to jail by the fcc, you hear all of these voices announcing their own pirate radio shows across the country.

of course, they were all advertising runaway hotlines and other socially responsible outlets of expression instead of just fucking around on the internet, but the whole idea of circumventing commercial communication channels really appealed to me (after all, who wouldn't want to emulate christian slater). at least having a weblog is not a jailable offense (as far as i know).
