oh, my ugly stepchild
many failed log-ins and countlessmany mini preps later, i am back, eating my all the reds soup (think bell peppers, not matrix references).
postdocs are the ugly stepchildren of the scientific community
although we all have to be one if we want to get jobs in academia. low wages, even longer hours than grad school, enormous pressure to produce something that will land you a job. and this is during your best child-bearing years.
an interesting statistic i heard the other day
the average scientist spends 1/2 to 1/3 of his/her life in some sort of training position
i have recently started to think seriously about retirement. and how i won't be able to. like ever.
