re-reading qoute posted from earlier this week. damn, that would've been a great senior quote.
went to see Tuck Everlasting tonight w/ 2 mormons and an atheist. remembered last reading the book in sixth grade, during our unit about rites of passage, ect. (riviting stuff for the practically pubescent set). discussion largely centered around the "wheel of life". anyway, realized that it has been a REALLY long time since i went to a PG-rated flick with romantic overtones when they got to the smooching under the waterfall part and the two kids didn't kiss. I bet the mormons were relieved. Part of me wants to sit them down, force R-rated movie watching and say, "See guys, that really wasn't so bad". Did the prophet actually make specific pronouncements about following the cinematic rating system?
anyway, for a disney movie, it really wasn't bad at all. not too cheesy, beautiful cinematogrpahy, good use of music (especially the subtle interplay b/w diegetic and non-). would overall give recommendation along the lines of the tom sawyer remakes.
saw enough "feel good" previews for the next six months. one, titled The Emperor's Club or such, looks like a cross between Dead Poets Society and Mr. Holland's Opus. Almost cried as Pierce Brosnan tried to get his Irish kid back from the orphanage. paid $8.75 to enjoy all of the above. i remember (not so long ago) when movies were $5. inflation? old age? have determined that i will be one of those old ladies who tells her grandkids about when she was young and things were better. but then i will remember the first few years of this millenium and who was in charge of our fine nation and bite my lip.
have decided that i might take x-ray crystallography after all b/c the guy teaching it is really hot. and portuguese. (i should tell katie, except that i think he's married).
