Movies, Movies and more Movies
Back to back to back nights of movie watching. First, it was Bridget Jones's Diary, which helped me recover from my back-aching cold. Discovered the joys of watching DVDs in bed. Next, it was Signs, the Mel Gibson thriller about aliens who experience death by water. The movie wasn't too bad except for a) the fact that aliens and crop circles really played a minor role in the plot and emotional narrative of the film, and b) the director just got it plain wrong. The priest experiences a reconversion after he takes his wife's final words "See, swing away" to a new level of coincidence in battling the aliens. He realizes his loss of faith was a horrible mistake and accepts the whole "everything happens for a reason" schtick. Final scene, he's donned the priest outfit again, as we hear his children laughing in the background. no evil aliens in sight. blah. tonight: say anything, prehaps one of my favorite early john cusack films. totally made up for friday night. now all i have to do is see The Ring and i will be set. apparently, somewhere in nyc they are showing all of the various asian cult versions back-to-back along with the american remake.
