Water, Water, Everywhere

Just finished a Harper's story about the Salton Sea in Southern CA and the nearby communities who would love to stick their greedy slippery paws into its water reserves. The tone of the story got me thinking about how water gets shuttled around the country. Can picture the "water barons" of the west coast, forming alliances, striking deals, while the suburban citizens shell out small fortunes to keep their gardens from wilting. Think desert wasteland with gun toting guys in suits (ok, their cronies would probably be the ones with the guns), keeping the water bottled up. Sort of reverse a Waterworld (minus the really cheesy torn leather outfits). From the article, it sounds like something not too terribly different is already occuring (w/o the mob mentality). And I thought that water was a renewable resource.

Religion will save us all...or not

my roomate told me that I might learn something if I go to church. Was very close to replying, "But I already know that people are delusional", but then decided that would not further roomate relations. I cannot tell if she looks down on me because I don't believe in God. Sometimes she gets that sad, "Life could only be more beautiful for you if you had faith" look. Sheesh.
