my trip to the capital... they don't call it "lobbying" for nuthin'

on short notice, i hopped up to hartford today to lobby for HB 5490, a bill to ban captive audience meetings in the state of connecticut.

lobbying involves standing in the lobby with shawn, the SEIU lobbyist & former military special ops guy, who tells you little tidbits of info about the legislators who wander by and points out the yale lobbyists hovering like vultures. man, there are tons of them! and they were dressed much more nicely than we were.

after a while of standing around, shawn spots a target- "ok, there's representative smith." "who?" "smith." "representative smith?" "right, go!" (hey, i have a really short attention span). then we would race up (or sometimes down) the escalator after representative smith, hand him our neon green fact sheet and give him our spiel.

one of the best things about the capitol is the subsidized coffee. 60 cents for a small. 74 for a medium! we were living the high life, let me tell you.
