the story of the tomato plant that could

back in the still quite chilly spring, i purchased two baby tomato plants. with visions of a grand fire escape garden, i transferred them to a soil filled box. unfortunately, i forgot to poke holes in the bottom of the box. i continued to neglect my waterlogged plants throughout the summer, watching them slowly die, their roots sitting atop the murky water.

imagine my surprise upon returning from my vacation. there, outside my window, was a ripe red tomato and several of its green bretheren. a true homage to the romantics. i think i will have salad for dinner.
